The fateful day

As the fateful day begins, "he" waits with anticipation for the biggest night of the week. It's Friday night and that means only one thing in Texas, football. Throughout the day he contemplates his future actions like a lawyer pouring over his final summation. Walking the school halls, he is asked the same question time and time again, but he doesn't waiver in his response. "Yes, I'm ready, and you'd better be there. History is going to be made tonight."

The legend revealed 

It is thirty minutes to game time. Both teams are going through their traditional warm up. He surveys the field and catches the eye of one of the referees; a nod is exchanged. As he walks away, he overhears his name being mentioned, along with the words "arrogant" and "vociferous." But he doesn't care. He knows he is good, and tonight they're playing in his backyard. He is the most important person on that field, and nobody, I mean nobody, can take that away from him. I know what you're thinking. It must be the quarterback. No, it's the wide receiver. Could it possibly be the announcer?
