The "play"

e have all been on that long run down the sidelines, chasing the fast runner. For Texas official Charley Harpole on 28 October, 2004, at the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, that run ended abruptly as he collided with Brackenridge High School assistant coach Terry English. What follows should be a lesson to us all.

The collision knocked both men to the ground, rendering them both unconscious as Coach English’s head struck the official. Official Harpole was treated at the stadium, but Coach English suffered Grade III concussion and head trauma. He was removed by ambulance. The trauma left him unable to coach or work.

The following day, head coach Willie Hall was quoted by local television station KSAT that the coach was in a restricted area where coaches are not supposed to be. Coach Hall added: "It's a shame what happened."
