he new restraining line requirement that the NFHS put in place for the 2007 season is a welcome addition. That restraining line now provides a visual point of reference for the line to gain crew and all others near the field of play. The message that needs to be conveyed of course is this:
The area between the sideline and the restraining line is for the officials.
That message should be reiterated during the pregame discussion with game administration and in the pregame conferences with coaches. The Head Linesman then needs to instruct the chain crew to set up on that restraining line once the line to gain has been established and the chain clip attached.
