(grin) There's no doubt that he is the single-most influential man in the sport's history, one who gave direction to the rules, one who set the landscape for the game. He played football in its infancy in the late 1870s when it was actually Rugby, and then became a coach, a Referee, and rules' innovator after that. He served on every Rules Committee from the early 1880s until his death, fittingly some say, during the 1925 Rules Committee Convention.
