he 1920s are often referred to as "Football’s Golden Age." The collegiate game was much more popular than the fledgling pro ranks at this point in history. College towns lived for the few weekends per year in the fall when their hometown gladiators would host an invading opponent from some other university. Bragging rights and rivalries were being established as well as many traditions that are carried on into today’s era. Football was indeed becoming a staple in American society, and the teams and players of the Roaring Twenties would become legendary.
Before we take a peek at more legends of the game from 1921, let’s take a step back and see some of the interesting items from the rules of that era. After all, we are a rules-oriented magazine.
Rules in 1921
According to the Spalding’s National Collegiate Athletic Association Foot Ball Rules (yes, it was two separate words back then) for the 1921 season, there were numerous revisions that would be instituted in the upcoming season.
