Before the kickoff
he ceremonies were opened with none other than Miami’s own Gloria Estefan, who introduced Cirque de Soleil performing a simulated football game using acrobatic performers acting as footballs in a colorful display with music accompaniment by Louis Vega.
Unlike past Super Bowls, individuals were not announced so player introductions were brief.
The Piano Man, Billy Joel, remembered the words to the Star Spangled Banner.
The coin toss featured Norma Hunt, the widow of the late Lamar Hunt, who was one of the founders of the old American Football League and who coined the name "Super Bowl." Dan Marino, the former Miami Dolphins' signal-caller and Hall of Famer, had been practicing coin tosses all day. His rolling toss proved he should stick to throwing the ball.

Tony Corrente, a 12-year officiating veteran in the NFL, will referee his first Super Bowl on Sunday.
Corrente has worked six playoff games in his career and was an alternate for last year's Super Bowl.
