n Part XV, I pointed out that a formation called the "Flying Wedge" was becoming the dominant strategy of many teams. Even so, many viewed the formation as an "illness"; many had mind to stop its use in the early 1890s.
1893 brings more strategic milestones
The advent of new strategies was gathering steam in early 1893, and we can trace much of it to the work of Yale's new coach, George W. Woodruff. He had recently left rival Pennsylvania for the greener fields of New Haven, and his revolutionary ideas had rival teams scratching their heads as they worked to counter his new concepts.
