Don't cut yourself

wo of my children are left-handed, and for a while I could hardly stand to watch the older one use a knife. She would hold it at an awkward angle and start cutting (think "mutilation") a piece of fruit, etc. It always looked as if she was going to slice off an appendage. The finished product (grapefruit, etc.) looked more like an elementary school art project than something you actually might want to eat. As a right-hander I really never gave it much thought, but if you consider that most tools, including knives, are primarily designed to be used by right-handers, you understand why it's not always as easy for a lefty.

My kids' ability, or lack thereof, with knives got me to thinking about the differences between right and left handers and whether being left- or right- handed makes any difference when it comes to officiating a football game.
