Never, ever, hit your whistle to kill the play unless you see the ball in the possession of a player who has something happening to him that will make the play become dead. Some items to mention are:

  • a knee on the ground;
  • any part of him other than a foot or hand touching the ground;
  • any part of the runner out of bounds;
