he previous half (Part X) of the subject of this Chalk Talk covered personal fouls, unsportsmanlike fouls, live versus dead balls, and penalties. Read this part and think about when to penalize in certain situations. When you are on the field during a game, you don’t have the luxury of thinking through a situation; but here online with the roar of the crowd only a memory, you can get it right.

Plays to test your mettle

Play 1: Second and ten for A from their 30. A32 runs to his 45. During the run and behind the play A35 punches B17 at A’s 33.

Ruling: That is a live ball personal foul. The basic spot is the spot of the foul, A’s 33, where A is penalized 15-yards and A35 is disqualified. Second and 22 from A’s 18.
