Jimmy Harper is a name many around the country have never heard; that is, never heard unless they were dyed-in-the-wool football fans or, more likely, football officials. Mr. Harper is one of the most decorated collegiate football officials ever, and we are pleased to tell his story.

Son of a coaching man

Jimmy Harper grew up in the small town of Thomasville, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. His father was J. K. 'Doc' Harper, a local football coach in the Atlanta area. Jimmy did not play for his father, though, as the younger Harper attended Thomasville High School and his father coached at another school in the area.
