Sportsmanship took a vacation during the last two weeks for several teams on Long Island (N.Y.) at the end of the 2002 season. East Islip's West Babylon team, out of frustration and led by the coach, attacked the officials as they left the field after the game. The officials at John Glenn High School in Elwood left the field in the third quarter in anticipation of pending trouble. The final game of the season at Roosevelt High School never happened as Cold Spring Harbor High School refused to make the trip to Roosevelt, fearing — they claimed — for the safety of the team and its supporters.
