Knowledge of the rules

ere is a "given" for any position in an officiating crew. It is impossible to “enforce the rules” if you don’t know what they are. Before every season, the back judge should review all the rules, but he should concentrate most heavily on Rules 6, 7, and 8. Therein lie all the plays for which he will have primary responsibility.
