Or, if you measure and it's 2 inches short on fourth down in the middle of the field? Everybody I know leaves the chains on the same spot and rotates the ball. But, when you get to the 6-inch line if you rotate the ball, the tail is in the end zone resulting in a safety! Solution: overlook the result of forward progress inside 11.5 inches and do not rotate the ball. If a team gives up the ball from 12 inches in toward the goal line, the opponent will start with the ball at the same place coming out!
