n official who looks like an official is more likely to gain the respect of the players, fans, and coaches than one whose appearance indicates a lack of knowledge, care, or concern. Officiating, just like any profession, comes with an expectation based upon impressions. An official who shows up looking unkempt may find his calls get little, if any, respect from anyone at the game. Personal appearance is one of those areas that will not give you positive points with anyone except other officials. But if you do it wrong, it will create a negative image in the minds of fans, coaches, and players.
