Century of Change 1909
NCAA football

The 1909 season brought another crisis for college football. Even with the 1906, 1907,and 1908 rules changes designed to open up the game and reduce the level of violence, the 1909 season was the deadliest ever. In addition to numerous permanently disabling injuries to prominent players, thirty-three players were killed playing collegiate football in 1909.

Something had to be done quickly.

Hollywood continues to roll out good football flicks. Adam Sandler has re-made the classic from 1974, The Longest Yard. Again we take the fictional and make it worthwhile in a new sort of film study for the high school football official.

Please look at this movie through Darin's eyes and study the opening free-kick, its many rule violations, and the all-important penalty enforcement.
